Ive heard quite a few people on here say that the 1996 banshee was the best year banshee. Whats different? I thought they were all the same other than the J-arm years and graphics. I happen to have just bought a 96 shee and it looks pretty much normal. I heard someone say something about the displacement of something??? what could it be ? Its the same motor right? Based on the RZ 350 streetbike motor. I thought they were identical?

Can anyone help me out?

Oh yeah 2 strokes rule!!!

Nope. the only thing to change for 19 years were the J arm to a-arms in 91, and the addition of a brake light in 2002. Those are the only known changes. oh and the front brake calipers, they changed when they went from the J-arm to the a-arm setup.

Of course the 96's are the best I own one....lol j/k

They also had a different rear bolt pattern for a couple years...

Has anyone ever heard of different length swingarms? I swear that my 88 swingarm is longer than my 96 swingarm...I'd measure but dont have the 88 swingarm anymore...

ok i'll help you guys out

j arms 87-90
a arms 91-06 (07 in canada)
4x115 rear pattern 87-88 and 91-06
4x156 rear pattern 89-90 (if you have a set of these and wanna sell em... PM me)

brake calipers changed with tha a arms...

axle carriers were differnt in teh early years.. they have 4 small 14mm head 10x1.25 bolts that held them on and the swinger in the back was thinner because the carrier bolted to the outside of the carrier plates.. the new ones bolt on the inside... i'm not exactly sure what year they changed it but.... it was either in 89 or 91.... stock gearign and tire size changed as well in 89-90 banshees had a 10" rear wheel..... the 4x156 pattern will only work on a 10"wheel..... early bansees were geard 13/40 87-88 everyother year stock gearing is 14/41..

as for swingarm lenght... i've heard this but never actually checked it... that early 87-88 swingers were 1" longer..... also the stock nerf were added soemwhere in the early 90's...

footpegs on the 87-88 are differnet they are an inch lower.... and don't work well at all with a a DG nerf with the rivtied nets...

electricla plugs are different as well
87-94 use the "square" plug as they are called
95-96 use what i call the bastard plug...
and 97-06 all use the same style plug...

as far as a 96 beign the best year..... NOPE.. it's the same as any other banshee form 91-06.... just a differnt color.... well except that white/blue 98's are the fastest.....
