Shock options for 85-86

I know this topic has been posted on here many times but it seems like I keep coming up with the same answer, nada. I can't really afford a nice set of works right now so I am looking to find a alternative oem shock for the rear, the rear I have now is way to soft and leaking and doesn't look like a good candidate for rebuilding. I've looked at a couple buddies quads and on ebay for cheap shocks that look like they might fit. I figure if I could get a used rear for $50 or so I would be doing all right and if it doesn't fit, oh well. I'm not sure the length of any of these shocks but it looks like maybe(big maybe) A predator 500 Fox might work, saw one with a Buy It Now for $65 shipped. Anyone know where I could find out the length of this and other shocks? The stocker is something like 15" correct?? Also a buddies raptor 660 with remote rezzy looks like it might fit although it seems a little long. Anyone tried anything other than the z400 on the newer lt's??

i have a banshee on mine it works good but i ha to modify the airbox
Wow thanks for the link blaster250 that'll save me a ton of time looking all that crap up. I never thought about using the lowering link. I know the Pred. 500 shock is longer, the only thing that worries me is that it's a linkless shock, but it's adjustable enough it could probably work on just about anything. As for the front, used banshee Works look like they might be the way to go, don't think I'd put banshee stockers on because they wouldn't be too much of an improvement over the stockers I got on it now. I could actually live with those for awhile it's that damn rear that just drives me nuts.
dkhargett how about posting a picture of that setup with the banshee shock??
Well I just found out that the Predator 500 rear shock measures in at 18" eye to eye, that's 3" too long.
i can rebuild the rear shocks for $140 shipped if any one is interested.

i think a warrior 350, or raptor 660 rear will bolt up. you need the older ones with the remote rezzie, or you'll have to mod the airbox. i've never tried this, just what i've read.

i changed the front shock mounts on my 86 to the 87 up style. i now use lt500r front works shocks. only problem now is the a arms are to short. its kinda tippy, needs longer arms in the front. but they do ride pretty good
here u go

you have to modifi the airbox a little but it works

Oh man I completely forgot that you did that when I was buying mine!!!! :angry3:
Jesus H christmas you hacked that airbox up real good, that's OK though nice to see you made the shock work. I am glad for the pics , I think you may be on to something.
i try i am fabercating a new airbox any way thats the advantiges of being a metal smith
i just cut it down the middle the other hole is from the pipe
dkhargett what type of riding do you do? im looking at shocks and trying to decide between a banshee and a 660 raptor. but i ride motocross, also what about the raptor 700 its rear shock .13 inches longer, with a 260 pound man with that make a difference?
i do alot of trail riding i am not sure he setup for motocross i am figuring thangs out as i go
My roommate has a 50th anniversary Rappy 700 and I've looked at his rear shock it looks like it'll fit but it's got the non remote rezzy similar to a banshee rear.
Raptor 700 rear shock measures 15.13"
Here's a 06+ TRX450R rear shock, guy says it's 15 1/4" eye to eye, might work don't know about that bottom mount though.
i think i might go with the raptor, i don't run an airbox anyway, anyone know if a bushing was made for the 450r lower moount if that could even out the pressure to the lower shock bolt won't just snap...its only an idea but i think its leading to be a bad one
Having to fab up some kinda bushing sounds like more work that I wanna do...
The shee drops right in. I dont have the box on mine and I had no problems... I dont think it would be all that hard to make a bushing up that would work to spread the weight out on the bolt but like you said that just depends on how much you want to do with it, and if the cost is going to be much of a difference you may as well just send it off to sblt, or mx86 for a rebuild and save yourself a potential headache
you can make anythang work f you wanna take the time to do it
