I know this topic has been posted on here many times but it seems like I keep coming up with the same answer, nada. I can't really afford a nice set of works right now so I am looking to find a alternative oem shock for the rear, the rear I have now is way to soft and leaking and doesn't look like a good candidate for rebuilding. I've looked at a couple buddies quads and on ebay for cheap shocks that look like they might fit. I figure if I could get a used rear for $50 or so I would be doing all right and if it doesn't fit, oh well. I'm not sure the length of any of these shocks but it looks like maybe(big maybe) A predator 500 Fox might work, saw one with a Buy It Now for $65 shipped. Anyone know where I could find out the length of this and other shocks? The stocker is something like 15" correct?? Also a buddies raptor 660 with remote rezzy looks like it might fit although it seems a little long. Anyone tried anything other than the z400 on the newer lt's??

how do you ride thats a big question. and if you have a friend with like a z400 or any other bike try to see if it would fit. honestly try to see if you can get your rebuilt, usually there is a reason its that specific length

I ride a little bit of everything, I don't race however I occasionally go to the track with friends. jsmstorm how was the ride on the banshee shock? That looks to me like it would be the cheapest shock. I really just do not like the stocker even when I first got the quad years ago it had been professionally rebuilt just prior to me buying it and I just never liked it. I really like the idea of a Pred. Fox shock but I need to figure out the length and find someone who has one to look it over. They're supposed to be the most adjustable factory shock made. Oh btw I think the z400 only fits the 91-92 I think.

How about measuring the length for then if you could. I'm thinking it would sit a little high but it's pretty adjustable so who knows. Just missed an auction on fleabay by like 8 minutes for one that went for $68 shipped, damn oh well.

What about front shocks? I've heard that 400ex shocks will work but sit a little higher. That's pretty much all I've heard anyone know of anything else? Also what is the stock length?

Measured mine it looks to be about 12" man is that short, anyways I'll definitely have to get the newer style upper frame mounts made up. Do they still make these? That would give me what something like 14" length?

Banshee fronts measure around 15" it looks like, to long unless I move the shock mounts up.

A little bit of grinding doesn't bother me one bit. How's the ride? Might be nice if I could pic up a used set of banshee works for the front.

I'm running a set of banshee works up front went right in no problems. The predator rear shock is probably gonna be a bit long for your rear I can't remember off the top of my head exactly how long it is but just ask someone sell theirs on ebay to measure it for ya

Here is a link from works website, it tells all of the lengths. Then the only thing you would have to worry about is if the ends dont fit in the swinger and rear pivot. But you could always ballpark the length.

http://www.worksperformance.com/pdf/app_guide/atv.pdf

As you can see, the stock length for front is 12.38" and rear is 15.00"

My rear shock is shot also, I have been keeping my eye out for a works on eBay. But I am considering going with a slightly longer shock from something else because I can reduce the length of the my dura blue rear strut.
