I have a 98 blaster that doesn't want to idle and also likes to hang up after given any throttle.

new cylinder, piston, reeds, carb is clean, and float height correct. passed leakdown test and everything. this thing is really bugging me at this point since it is my wifes quad and want her to be able to ride.

any help is appreciated

Passed leak down test with flying colors.

The upper carb gasket is there in it's proper spot on the cap, unless maybe it's worn out over time and not completely sealing? I've cleaned the damn carb and checked the float level a few times already. That stuff checks out. There wasn't any change in the throttle spraying carb cleaner all over the carb/air filter boot side either.

I'm gonna get some fresh gas this weekend and mix it up and see if there's any change.

Had to take some time off from it, everytime I mess with it makes we wanna push it off a cliff more and more 😅
What carb do you have?
What needle is in it?
Have you tried a plug with a higher NGK #?
Stock carb, and stock needle to my knowledge. I have not tried a higher ngk plug.
I'm gonna be messing around with it some more this Saturday. Going to get some fresh fuel. Check the float level via clear tube method and grab a new plug. Also going to make sure I get the top of the carb nice and tight

Always start off with fresh fuel and premix, and correct spark plug. Don't need stuff making you run in circles. If its been sitting awhile, pull your fuel petcock out and make sure filter screen is clean and in good condition before ya fresh fuel it. Try and use ethanol free fuel too.
I drained and rinsed the tank with some fuel, sprayed the petcock.
The only ethonal fuel I have seen in my area is only 87 octane I believe, will that be okay? I always like running premium in my stuff

If your gonna ride it often ethanol ok, just corrodes aluminum if stored for awhile. It will eat a carb alive.

If it has stock compression, porting and timing, yes.
So new plug, new fuel, double checked float level and made sure carb cap is tight. Throttle still hangs up before dropping to a non existent idle. Wondering maybe if the throttle needle or needle seat is worn out? Possibly the O ring on the air fuel screw is bad letting in that little bit of extra air?

I'll have to just get a video of what it is doing for you guys

Pilot jet ok? Bad pilot jet would screw up your idle.
It appears fine, I might just get new pilot, main jet and throttle needle. Pretty cheap and easy.

I clean jets out with carb clean, a thin piece of wire, carefully and compressed air. Simple, you do not have to buy new jets.
UPDATE!!! bought a carb kit from freedom country atv and replaced the throttle needle, pilot and main jets. Also replaced the top gasket on carb. Fired up and ran great for about 15 min then had a severe bog anything above idle, I suspect I might be a little rich because I remember the boysen power reeds install direction saying something about that. Going to try and pop the air filter lid off and see how she does.
But the hanging throttle issue is CONPLETELY GONE!!!! Plus she will idle now too 😎

Good deal, try without the air box lid. You'll be amazed the power gain. Make sure you got a good clean air filter.
This will probably be the last post on this thread! Blaster is back in business and runs great. Airbox lid off and some tinkering with the air fuel screw got it running perfect.
Wife rode it on a 3 hour ride with me around Frenchman's lake and it was flawless. Thanks for all the help everyone 🤙
