My first post here. I've acquired a basket 87 500. Someone pressed off the 2nd driven gear off the drive shaft. Is this gear welded onto the shaft? I figure it must be as it looks as if it was spot welded to the shaft and the ID of the gear is round as is the shaft. If so, what can a guy do? Maybe heli-arc the gear back on? The diagram of the trans shows the gear as being removable and able to be purchased new. Thanks for any help.

No, it's not welded on. You have to be careful with those lower ends, many of those parts are not available anymore, I know that shaft hasn't been for years now.

I think I figured out how it was welded on. There appears to be a groove in the shaft that possibly silver solder or something like it was laid in there. Then I believe the gear was installed hot, fusing the gear to the shaft. I think I'm gonna heat the gear up and press it back on the shaft.

Something isn't right there. I'd investigate more first. I can't see it needing to be pressed on.
Like mentioned, as the guys at HQ. They know these things in and out.
