I agree, they are some crazy fun...Wish Honda would pick them back up and run with them.

If you look at the direction the UTVs are going, more sport...I would think a hot single seat machine would be a big hit...

Not that hard to come by...Ebay has several on there every month, I didn't even look at Craiglist but I'm sure there are plenty on there too every month...
Ok.. not hard to come by but a good buy is hard to find out here. Just saw one with original top end. Motor never been cracked open. All virgin for $7000. Most of them go between $5000 to $7000.
That things cool!! I'd roll in that. :D
j/k, i would roll it too. Now i didn't see it run but another member here did. Said it was a 2 stroke motor and it was kicking ass at comp hill.

Long ago, met this pilot rider at Glamis. Said he was the original owner and mentioned how many offers he's had on his childhood toy but wouldn't sell it ever.. Not even for 15k :Cash:

On a pilot forum I'm a member on, guy just found a steal of a deal for $3500...They're still out there. Right now the market is pretty soft...good buyers market. $5000 is about top dollar for "good" pilot that shows signs of use...(cracked plastic, split seat but stock). If you guys see these, you should snag them...I suspect once the economy picks up, these will go back up in price...

Just purchased some front A-arms to beef up the front and allow me to run with a current Elka set up I have sitting on the shelf. Not sure on the rear yet...already has a plenty of travel for the riding/racing I'll be doing here...might try to do some sort of lift just to give me a little more clearance for log crossings and ruts...The UTVs have 4X4 to get through all that...

On a 2 stroke note... found some kits to do a run a 500cc top end...might have to give this a quick look at as an option to run with this season...:Smoke:

Priority to the work is going by what we have to install for safety first...to pass the race inspections.

Here is seat that is going in, takes up less space than the stocker seat, thus giving me a couple of more inches of room...

I have extra space between the exhaust, motor and the back of the seat...Plan is to drop in a fire wall to keep me cool from the heat of the motor and pipe...

The seat pan doesn't sit as low as the stock seat so the plan now is to skid plate a full length floor from front to rear...plenty of protection on the backside...

We're going to rotate the seat back to more of a reclined position...more comfort. To do this we're going to remove the straight cross bar and replace it with a curved one.

Pending the parts they tend to be a little high in price...buying complete machines, buyers market right now. Im lucky enough that I can fab some of the parts I need or have access to people who can fab what I need...as you're all seeing already. There are the people out there that question why I would modify a FL400R thinking it should be left stock...well stock isn't good enough, technology has changed and safety standards have been increased to to compete, it has to be upgraded to new standards...To me it's no different that a person who modifies a RZR for competition... A lot of the modifications people are doing to these machines is dropping sled engines into them...I know of one that is being split down the middle from end to end and they are turning it into a 2 seat machine...

Had a final measurement done for the seat, decided to run the radiator on the angled down tubes of the roll cage...With some creative body work, it will funnel a lot of air through the radiator...Hope to send it all off to the powder coater in 2-3 weeks.

Update...Radiator is now mounted. AJ built the crossbar behind the seat which has threaded inserts welded in for the shoulder harness and the seat mount tabs in place. He'll be doing the under seat cross bars tomorrow so I'll post up pics of both then.

Mocked up the radiator mounts, used part of the stock piece on the lower side with the bushings. We'll extend the wiring for the temp sender and be using clear hose for the coolant lines.

The A arms are ready, so AJ focused on the front lower frame. We noticed it was tweeked a little and he replaced the damage front lower tube. While checking this area close, he noticed some spots that seemed a little weak from either the age of the metal or moisture inside the tube...replaced everything not 100%.
