I wasn't finding exactly what I was looking for so I figured I'd ask.
So I bought a 2001 banshee that was supposed to be completely stock and just used as a trail rider. It was a 1-2 kick machine before I had to fix the transmission, then I started finding other issues. I found out once I started taking her apart that none of what I was told was true.
For starters, the bottom end- where the connecting rod connects to the crank, there are 2 shims on each side. I was under the impression that stock cranks do not have those. The outside crank bearings were loose on the crank shaft and spun and tore up the case. I'm wondering if this happened because the crank was not stock. I'm unsure of how else to tell if the crank is stock or not. I had ordered new bearings and I don't know if they'll fit if it's not stock. Any help with that would be great.
Next, the top end- I haven't gotten a chance to do a precise bore reading but on the top of my piston it has the number 150 and the top of my cylinder bore is 2.574. I believe that is over stock. If I don't have to get it bored can I hone it or does it have a coating like the Kawasakis? If the piston is oversized, what piston rings should I get? If anyone has any insight in these things I would appreciate it as it would ease my mind.
Thanks for the help!
