I know this isn't a 2-stroke but I frequent the site and know there are some really knowledgable folks on here.

The bike is a 2003 Yamaha Warrior

My problem is simple, when I hit the start button nothing happens.
I can turn the key on, turn it to run and jump the solenoid posts and the thing starts right up. The neutral light works and so do the lights. I tried with the clutch pulled in and it didn’t make a difference.

I tried to wiggle wires and look if something came un-plugged. I don’t see anything. The last time I parked it everything was fine.

Any ideas? I need to get this fixed ASAP because I am supposed to deliver it to the person tomorrow who just bought it from me.

:thanks:

you said that the start button does nothing but when you jump the solenoid posts(im assuming for the starter) it turns over and starts up. I am thinking you have a bad starter switch. Not sure what style witch but i would think when the button is depressed the is a break in the circuit and when you press it, it completes the circuit and sends voltage to the starter and so on..

Are you familiar with using a DMM(digital multi meter) If you are, then i would say test for coninutity before the switch and after the switch. If the switch is like i would think it is, then you should have continuity when you press the switch down and then read OL when the switch isn't pressed.

I don't. I just got it 2 weeks ago and cleaned it up to flip and now this happens. I was reading that the reverse lever can sometimes throw it off and cause this trouble. I'll check it and then check the starter swith....

Should I put the tester lead on the wire that runs to the solenoid? I'm not very good with the electrical stuff.

now after reading up about the warriors, i found out they have a clutch switch on them. But i dont think this is your problem since they clutch switch is so you can start it up while in gear with the clutch pulled in, instead of putting it into neutral every time. And we can also rule out that the ignition switch is not your problem due to the fact that you can get the neutral light to come on and what not.

Give me a few minutes, ill tell you which ones you need to test, im just reading over the manual right now.

SandMan....

When I went out to find the model number I noticed a wire that was bare that was back by the solenoid and when I wrapped it, it started right up. Thanks so much for your time! I really appreciate it! Have a great weekend!
