Advice for first time 2 stroke owner Honda 97 cr250r

Just got this bike a few weeks ago I used to ride when I was younger but never serious now I want to really get into it since I'll have access to 30 Acers of land to roam free any advice or tips should be greatly appreciated the bike is in Virginia while I'm still in Oregon but just had someone put a new card and throttle cable since it was broke when bought not sure how it runs but what do y'all think

Get a good compression tester and keep an eye on it. Keep the maintenance up and run a good premix. Keep the air filter clean.

Is there a certain brand I should look for in the aftermarket market
snap on is good. I would look to spend over $70 to get a good tester. Klotz super techniplate at 36:1. bel ray gear saver tranny oil. uni foam filters.

I'm thinking it's going to be mountain trail build since alot of the area is Pacific north west
