So while looking at 2 stroke engines in a V configuration, I've noticed that the forward facing cylinders usually faces downward, for example the NSR500 V4, the NS500 and the RS250. Is there any reason for this?

lower center of gravity. On those application, ground clearance isn't an issue or a consideration as it is in offroad applications.

Thats my assumption anyways :)
