Okay here is the deal. I am new to two strokes. I have ridden four strokes my entire life but I have switched over to two strokes. I recently bought a 1991 RM250 and the motor was in a crate. Literally, torn apart in a crate. I consider myself pretty handy with a set of good tools so I decided to put the motor together myself. I bought the official Suzuki book and put it back together. Heres my problem, when I start the bike (lots and lots of kicking as well as squirt bottle priming through the air box) it smokes to high heaven and leaks thick black oil out of the exhaust port on the head. I have a few theories on this.
1.) The rings are shot
2.) The seals for the crank is bad
3.) I really messed something up on reassembly

Any ideas why this would happen? Any help would be really, really appreciated.

Did this get ANY new parts? Or did you just slap all the old stuff back together?
The black could be a bad right crankseal, leaking carb, high float level, cheep oil, real rich oil ratio, excessively rich jetting.

Good luck on leakdown testing. Just recently did an 89 rm 250, ready to blow my brains out before I got done.
